“Wisdom is the principle thing.  Therefore, get wisdom, and with all thy getting, get understanding.”– Proverbs 4:1-10

Beta Theta Pi is dedicated to building men of principle for a principled life. Our brotherhood aids the individual, builds the Fraternity, and strengthens the host academic institution through lifelong devotion to intellectual excellence, high standards of moral conduct, and responsible citizenship. The University of San Diego chapter greatly stresses the importance of cultivation of the intellect and has consistently achieved the top fraternity GPA on campus, including for six out of the last seven semesters.

Men of Principle Scholarship

The deadline to apply is November 1st.  Semifinalists will be notified of interview times.

Dear University of San Diego Student:

On behalf of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, let me extend a welcome to the University of San Diego. There is no doubt that in the following year you will encounter new challenges and opportunities that will help shape your college experience and lead to future success in life.

Beta Theta Pi believes that college men should be recognized for their success and desire to achieve. In fact, for more than 175 years, we have been in the business of building Men of Principle. Beta strives to provide strong relationships as well as leadership opportunities and personal development. For many of our members, these skills have transferred to professional life. You have probably heard of a few of them: Coach John Wooden, Wal-Mart Founder Sam Walton, Baseball Great Mike Schmidt, Retail Guru Bruce Nordstrom, ESPN personality Neil Everett, the late US Senator Richard Lugar, Former Secretary of Defense William Perry, and renowned journalist Howard Fineman. For many men, the Beta experience has been a catalyst for success.

In hopes of providing these same opportunities on our campus, Beta Theta Pi offers a scholarship designated by the Beta Theta Pi Foundation for non-Greek male students at the University of San Diego. We seek men who demonstrate devotion to academic achievement and a commitment to making both the university and community better places. Most importantly, we seek men who desire to develop skills that will help them become successful in college, but will also carry over to their professional and personal lives.

If you are interested in the scholarship, I encourage you to fill out the online application.  The field will be narrowed and finalists will be interviewed before we select our scholarship recipient and recognize him later in the semester at our scholarship banquet.  It is important to note, however, that by applying for the scholarship, you are not committing yourself to membership in Beta Theta Pi or any other organization; rather, you are merely affirming your desire to strive for excellence.

If you should have any questions, please contact our chapter Scholarship Chairman at scholarship@sdbeta.org, We look forward to receiving your application and meeting you this semester.
